Opinion: Thierno Barry's injury issues revealed after what was spotted in Everton vs Man United

In Monday night’s game between Everton and Manchester United, I witnessed why Thierno Barry may be struggling so much as he displayed the extent of his shoulder injury.

Since signing for Everton, the 23-year-old striker has only been able to return five goals and he is now four Premier League games without finding the back of the net.

Despite his poor form, David Moyes has insisted on keeping Barry in the starting XI over Beto.

Following a bright start to the game, Barry’s performance curtailed after he received treatment from the Everton medical staff inside the first half.

Is is time to drop Barry? 😬

Thierno Barry's statistics vs Manchester United.

Barry admitted he dislocated his shoulder earlier in the season against Fulham and the extent of that injury was on display at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Thierno Barry reveals the extent of his dislocated shoulder in Everton defeat

After around 30 minutes, Barry was brought down by Kobbie Mainoo and the striker remained down despite it seeming like an innocuous incident.

Barry required attention from the Everton medical staff and, after going off the pitch, the Frenchman revealed the extent of his ongoing shoulder injury.

However, some sympathy may be owed as the striker took off his shirt to reveal the heavy strapping he was wearing over his left shoulder.

The medical team were required to adjust his strapping as the severity of the issue was made very clear months on from when it initially happened back in November.

“With the passion on the pitch, you don’t feel the pain. You feel it after the game, maybe, but on the pitch, you don’t feel it,” Barry said last year after suffering the injury.

Barry did not register a single shot during the game on Monday evening, but Everton fans may feel a little bit more sympathy towards him after witnessing his injury problem.

Thierno Barry may require summer surgery on his shoulder

It is now months on from when Barry initially dislocated his shoulder and the striker is still suffering as a result.

Barry has netted four goals in his last nine games, but his purple patch has now come crashing to an end.

Even Jarrad Branthwaite has urged Barry to produce more in attack for Everton on the back of his display against Man United.

However, the reality is the 23-year-old may well require surgery in the summer to get him back to full fitness regarding this shoulder issue.

The Frenchman may have shown some goalscoring potential over recent weeks, but this is an issue which is clearly causing him some discomfort during games.
