Everton's projected points tally and where they'd finish based on last season's table

Everton’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United last night leaves them ninth in the Premier League table.

It’s now seven games without a win for Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, which is denting their hopes of European football this season.

What would your message to David Moyes be after the loss to United? 😡

Jamie Carragher has defended David Moyes, though, as he believes he’s overperforming with the calibre of players at his disposal.

The Toffees are still in the mix for a European finish, as they only reside three points adrift of seventh-placed Brentford.

With that said, we’ve taken a look at how many points Moyes’ side are projected to finish on and where they’d end up based on last season’s table.

Everton projected to finish on 52 points

Everton have accumulated 37 points across 27 games this season, which is a decent return considering all the injuries and absences Moyes has had to contend with.

His team are currently averaging 1.3 points per game, which projects them to finish on 52 points come the end of the season.

That would be a slight improvement on last season’s 48-point total, but it’s likely not enough to finish in Europe.

52 points would’ve got you 13th last term, with seventh place finishing on a very strong total of 65.

Indeed, the threshold for Europe isn’t expected to be as high this year, but Everton are still expected to finish a fair few points adrift at their current rate.

Toffees supporters believe they’ll miss out on Europe due to the poor home form, and it’s hard to disagree with that.

Moyes wants to remain hopeful though: “I don’t want to come in here and say we’re trying to avoid relegation.

“I don’t want to do that because Everton have had too much bad news and bad publicity, so I’d rather come in here and say we’re having a go at Europe.

Give us your gut feeling… will Everton make it into Europe? 🌍

“You might laugh at me in a few weeks’ time and say, ‘How stupid was I’, but I’d rather be positive and try to make the players know that is what I want.

“They do know, they know as well and they are well aware that we’d like to do that.”
