Brighton loan watch: Evan Ferguson injury update as £9m signing silences his critics

After Brajan Gruda lit up the Bundesliga last week with a goal and an assist, this week’s Brighton loanees’ performances were a little more subdued. There were some standouts, though. Eiran Cashin put in a standout display for Blackburn Rovers, whilst Carl Rushworth kept another clean sheet.

The Brighton Base looks at these performances, provides you the latest on Evan Ferguson’s injury status, and reviews how the rest of the Brighton loan army got on in the last week.

Evan Ferguson (AS Roma): vs. Cremonese

Remains out with a left ankle problem. The Irishman is reportedly back in England to undergo medical tests on that same injury. There are fears that he could be out for the rest of the season.

Brajan Gruda (RB Leipzig): vs. Borussia Dortmund

Started and played 82 minutes for RB Leipzig in their marquee Bundesliga matchup against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. The Red Bulls drew 2-2 again, but unlike against Wolfsburg last week, Gruda failed to score or assist either of his team’s goals.

Diego Coppola (Paris FC): vs. Toulouse

Played all 90 minutes in the centre of a back-three for Paris FC in their 1-1 draw with Toulouse. He was carded in the first half, but saw out the match without further issue and actually led his side in headed clearances with seven.

Facundo Buonanotte (Leeds): vs. Aston Villa

Was left out of the Leeds squad for their 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.

Tommy Watson (Millwall): vs. Portsmouth

Played 61 minutes as a left-winger for Millwall in a 3-1 loss to Portsmouth. It was Watson’s first start for the Lions since joining the Championship club in January.

Malick Yalcouye (Swansea City): vs. Bristol City

Played 20 minutes as a substitute for Swansea City in their 1-0 win over Bristol City. The Ivorian has become a pivotal late-game player for the Swans, having come on as a sub in each of his last eight appearances.

Ibrahim Osman (Birmingham City): vs. Norwich City

Played 27 minutes as a substitute in Birmingham City’s 2-1 win over Norwich City on Saturday.

James Beadle (Birmingham City): vs. Norwich City

Returned to the starting lineup after sitting out the FA Cup. The Englishman played all 90 minutes of the 2-1 win over Norwich City. He made eight saves in the match, which is the most he’s made all season. Beadle’s previous highest tally (six saves) was also against Norwich in a 4-1 win back in November.

Eiran Cashin (Blackburn Rovers): vs. Preston North End

Played 90 minutes and was named Player of the Match for Blackburn Rovers in their 1-0 win over Preston North End on Friday night. The Irishman was also named Blackburn’s Player of the Month for January.

Jeremy Sarmiento (Middlesbrough): vs. Oxford United

Played 60 minutes in a 0-0 draw with Oxford United. It was the Ecuadorian’s first start for Middlesbrough since joining the club in January, following his return from Cremonese.

Carl Rushworth (Coventry City): vs. West Brom

Kept a clean sheet for Coventry City in their 2-0 win over West Brom on Saturday. The 24-year-old now has 11 clean sheets to his name this season, the most in the Championship.

Amario Cozier-Duberry (Bolton Wanderers): vs. Blackpool

Still sidelined with a knee ligament injury. However, there is hope that the Brighton loan player will return before the end of this season.

Yoon Do-young (FC Dordrecht): vs. Jong Ajax

Played all 90 minutes of a 1-0 loss to Jong Ajax in the Eerste Divisie. It was the first league loss for the South Korean since he joined FC Dordrecht in January after leaving Excelsior Rotterdam.

Kamari Doyle (Reading): vs. Port Vale

Started and played 73 minutes for Reading in their 1-1 draw with Port Vale. The attacking midfielder is closing in on 2,000 league minutes played for the Royals this season.

Mark O’Mahony (Reading): vs. Port Vale

Remains out with a serious injury, as reported last week. It’s unclear whether the forward will play again this season.

Caylan Vickers (Wigan Athletic): vs. Stockport County

Played 11 minutes from the bench in Wigan Athletic’s 4-2 defeat to Stockport County. The midfielder is still yet to start for the Latics since joining in January.

Jacob Slater (Harrogate Town): vs. Bromley

Played all 90 minutes at left-back in a hard-fought draw with League Two leaders Bromley. Harrogate Town are currently in the relegation zone, just one point away from safety.
