He joined the Serie A side from Genoa in July 2025 for a reported fee of €16m plus €4m in bonuses.
The centre-back has played 1,443 matches from 24 matches in all competitions for La Dea. His performances haven’t gone unnoticed.
What’s new in Honest Ahanor transfer race
Honest Ahanor
Italy, Bergamo, 2026 01 25: Honest Ahanor (Atalanta) close to score in the second half during soccer game Atalanta BC vs Parma Calcio, Serie A EniLive 2025-2026, day 22 at New Balance Arena
Three months ago, Sport Witness reported on Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion interest in the defender.
Tuttosport now back up interest from Vítor Pereira’s side and that the Red Devils, Spurs and the Magpies have joined them in the transfer chase.
According to the newspaper, Manchester United, Tottenham, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest have all been closely monitoring the player.
The Premier League quartet need to be wary of competition from elsewhere.
Why this won’t be purely a Premier League transfer fight
Atletico Madrid signed Ademola Lookman from Atalanta in the winter market. Prior to securing his services, the La Liga side sent their officials to keep a close watch on Honest Ahanor and his former teammate, Éderson.
Ahanor caught Los Rojiblancos officials’ attention, when they were monitoring Lookman and the Brazilian midfielder.
AC Milan tried to sign him before La Dea acquired his signature and continue to be in the mix for his signature. The young defender had already impressed Napoli manager Antonio Conte and is on their sporting director, Giovanni Manna’s list.
He is expected to receive offers in the summer. It’s unclear whether Manchester United, Tottenham, Newcastle or Nottingham Forest will submit bids.
Atalanta, who paid a ‘monstrous sum for a minor’, would demand a hefty fee to consider selling him.
He turns 18 years of age on Monday [today]. Due to his age, Atalanta were only able to offer him a contract until 2028.
Tuttosport claim he’ll be granted the Italian citizenship this week, after which Honest Ahanor will be eligible to receive a call up from Gennaro Gattuso.
