‘For me…’ – Former Leeds United ace makes brutally honest Lukas Nmecha admission

Leeds United

Daniel Farke got everything spot on when Leeds United faced Aston Villa last weekend. Going into an away game, many did not expect much, especially with how good Unai Emery’s side are at Villa Park.

The Whites swarmed Aston Villa in the first half; the home side could barely move the ball into central areas. The plan from Leeds was simple, forcing the opponent out wide. And for large stretches of the game, Villa had to rely on hopeless crosses into the box. Things went from bad to worse for Unai Emery when Anton Stach managed to bend a free kick past Emi Martinez.

The away side struggled to create any meaningful chances in the second half as Emery threw on substitutes to change the game. Tammy Abraham eventually found the net late in the second half from a corner kick.

Former Leeds United man criticizes Lukas Nmecha for Villa miss

Leeds left Villa Park with just a point, but could have easily gotten a win on the day. They got some chances in the second half, and missed one big one when Lukas Nmecha was denied from close range by Emi Martinez. Michael Bridges criticized the striker for not taking the chance to seal the game:

“Nmecha makes a lovely run, he’s only just come on, that would have been his first touch of the game I do believe, and Martinez, what he does so well, he makes himself big, because I like what Nmecha’s done when he’s put the ball down towards the ground but for me, it must find the back of the net and that is job done, game over and it was such a disappointment to see Martinez make that save,”

That missed chance ended up biting the visitors, as Villa eventually got an equalizer.

Leeds have to get better at killing games off

Leeds United have been playing well since the end of last year, but there seems to be a running theme in some games. Whenever the Whites get the chance to kill off a game, and get three points, the attack seems to misfire. And that is one of the biggest reasons why they have played a draw in six of their last 10 games. Avoiding defeat is great, but sometimes the team needs to take the risk to get all three points. Daniel Farke will hope his attackers find their finishing boots from now till the end of the season.
