Leeds United’s hopes of selling Jack Harrison permanently in the summer have been boosted by early impressions of the winger on loan at Fiorentina.
United did very little in the January window. But, there was opportunity for one loanee out, to be replaced by one loanee in.
Jack Harrison left to go on loan to Fiorentina, allowing him a chance to revive his stalling career. In turn, Leeds brought in Facundo Buonanotte to take his place.
Jack Harrison yet to get off the mark for Fiorentina as Leeds United hope for permanent deal
A loan is not as favourable for Leeds as a permanent sale for the £11million 2021 signing. That being said, a strong half-season spell in Florence could see United finally cash in on someone who very obviously has no future here.
Teaming up with former Leeds winger Manor Solomon, who also joined in January, Harrison is yet to get off the mark for La Viola like last season’s title-winner, who has two goals already.
Their latest performance was a 1-0 win in a relegation six-pointer against Pisa. Ex-Everton man Moise Kean scored the winner early on to lift Fiorentina two places, out of the relegation zone and into 16th on goal difference.
With no goals and one assist so far, Harrison is making a positive impression still.
This week, Italian outlet Labaro Viola relay La Nazione‘s stance on Harrison’s start to life in Florence. Presently, his work ethic and unique role as an old-fashioned winger is impressing his current employers.
“He plays wide in a role that is almost nonexistent anymore: that of winger. And he plays with the characteristics of the old-time players in that position: dribbling, leaping past the opponent, weaving, and moving toward the goal following trajectories—strictly with the inverted foot, just in case—that he himself opens the ball, with the strength, athletic power, concentration, and consistency needed in today’s game.
“It’s no coincidence that he was shaped by the footballing vision of that unconventional genius, Marcelo Bielsa.”
Harrison’s unwillingness to use his weaker foot has already been identified as a big weakness. But, his performances “without vanity” to help the team have been recognised as a real positive.
Leeds United need Jack Harrison off the books this summer with permanent sale
Harrison making a strong impression at Fiorentina would be an ideal development for us. It would show that he’s still got what it takes to play games at the highest level.
To me, I’d have been expecting a return to the MLS sooner rather than later, given previous reported interest from that part of the world.
What we’re hearing here is a lot of what we already know about Harrison. He’s a traditional winger that hugs the touchline and runs hard. Regardless of that, he needs to start producing some output to be viable as a signing for someone like Fiorentina.
