Jack Grealish defends Raheem Sterling after January Everton target mocked at Feyenoord

Raheem Sterling turned down the chance to reunite with Jack Grealish at Everton during the winter transfer window.

It was talkSPORT who claimed that Sterling spoke to Everton and holds a huge amount of admiration for David Moyes – but ultimately chose Feyenoord in favour of regular playing time.

The England international had not played any football at Chelsea in the first half of the season and consequently experienced a poor debut at Feyenoord in a 2-1 win over Telstar.

It led to criticism online, but Jack Grealish has now jumped to defend the Everton target – who he has played 42 games alongside throughout his career.

With Jack Grealish done for the season, let us know your verdict on his campaign! 🤔

He provided six assists and two goals in the Premier League 👏

Jack Grealish slams “stupid” Raheem Sterling post

A page on Instagram called footballpark criticised Sterling, posting: “Raheem Sterling’s debut for Feyenoord was not exactly a success story – in fact, it looked like a veritable disaster from the Dutch club’s point of view. The English winger looked like Bambi on ice.

“On a downward spiral since 2022, lacking motivation, and seemingly unable to play under anyone who isn’t named Pep Guardiola, Sterling is well and truly into his twilight years. Is it time to hang the boots up once and for all?”

That was quite a harsh reaction towards a player who had not featured in a competitive game since a 2-1 win for Arsenal over Southampton back in May, and Grealish was having none of it.

The Everton No.18 defended his pal and responded: “What a _______ stupid Instagram post man what’s wrong with you guys. Guy hasn’t played or trained for so long. (People) like u guys (are) what (is) wrong with the world. Have some respect 🤦🏻‍♂️.”

Well said.

Everton having another go at Raheem Sterling deal cannot be ruled out

Everton could take another look at signing Sterling this summer – in our opinion at least.

The 31-year-old only signed a deal with Feyenoord until the end of the season, and might be more open to a Premier League move once he rebuilds his match fitness in the Netherlands.

It has also been well documented that Sterling ideally wants to stay in England for the long-term for family reasons, as his son plays in the academy at Arsenal.

If you could sign one player, who would it be Everton fans? 🤩

So, considering Everton approached the man born in Kingston last month, we feel the Toffees could have another go at securing his signature on a free transfer this summer if he does well under Robin van Persie at Feyenoord.
