Reports indicate Liverpool are ready to pay €90m to sign Anthony Gordon, after the Newcastle United forward scored four goals against Qarabag.
This season has made it clear that Liverpool must sign fast and skilful wingers in the summer transfer window, with Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah both struggling.
Rio Ngumoha showcased what Liverpool could look like with pacy and direct wingers in his cameo against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, driving to the by-line before standing up a cross to the back post. Unfortunately, Alexis Mac Allister’s resultant goal was disallowed for handball.
Liverpool are reportedly chasing Yan Diomande, with one report claiming an agreement has been reached with the player over a summer move to Anfield.
It’s now being reported that Liverpool also want Gordon.
Liverpool ready to pay €90m to sign Gordon
According to reports in Spain, Liverpool are ready to pay around €90m (£78m) to sign Gordon, who is a boyhood Reds supporter. Despite previously playing for Everton, “sources close to the player indicate that the young winger would welcome a return to his boyhood club.”
The report goes on to say: “Liverpool is preparing the necessary documents to begin negotiations that promise to be the biggest transfer saga of the summer in the British Isles.”

Gordon could make history this season
Last week, Gordon scored four goals in Newcastle’s 6-1 thrashing of Qarabag, and if he finds the net twice tonight or later in the knockout stages, he could become the joint-highest scoring Premier League player in the Champions League.

For reference, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are Liverpool’s highest scorers in a single UCL campaign with 10 goals.
Despite scoring 10 goals in 9 Champions League games, Gordon has just three Premier League goals this season. At 25, there is plenty of time for the Scouser to evolve into an elite forward, but his consistency in league football remains an issue.
Last season, Gordon managed just six goals in 34 league appearances, suggesting a £78m fee would be a steep price.
Liverpool need to get their recruitment spot on this summer after spending £460m in the summer only to fall from grace after winning the Premier League last season.
