Fulham will get the opportunity to bolster their squad when the transfer window opens up for business

According to Corriere dello Sport, Fulham are battling with Newcastle United to sign Roma defender Zeki Celik this summer. The report adds that Juventus and Stuttgart are also interested. His contract in Italy expires at the end of the season.

The Whites are sat in 10th place in the Premier League table after 27 fixtures. They have 37 points on the board with 11 games left to play. The Cottagers are back in action this weekend with a home clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

Fulham eye Zeki Celik transfer move this summer

Fulham could see Celik as someone to boost their defensive department. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth at the back. In addition, he would offer them something different to what they already have at their disposal in his position.

Celik, 29, is due to become a free agent in June. He is yet to put pen-to-paper on an extension with Roma so most signs point towards an exit right now. The Turkey international, who has 58 caps to his name, made the switch to Serie A back in 2022.

The full-back has since made 137 appearances in all competitions, 22 of which have come this season, and he has chipped in with two goals from the back. He started his career with spells in his native country with Bursaspor and Istanbulspor. Lille then came calling and he went on to play 143 games during his time in France before making his way over to Rome.

What now for Fulham and Marco Silva?

Fulham returned to winning ways last time out against Sunderland. They won 3-1 against the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light. Speaking afterwards, Marco Silva said: “Big win, we knew that it was going to be another crucial game for us and it was going to be very important to come from some not good results for us in the Premier League.

“After an incredible run during January and December too, we wanted to bounce back in a place that has been very difficult for all the teams to play against Sunderland.”
