Liverpool are looking to spend big again in the summer and there has been an update on the speculation linking Yan Diomande.
Last summer it was strikers. This summer, it is looking increasingly likely that there will be a raft of exciting and new wingers arriving in the Premier League with Liverpool at the front of the queue.
Already, Arne Slot has been linked with a move for Paris Saint Germain’s Bradley Barcola with Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye also said to be a possible, if not controversial, option. More loosely mentioned have been Real Madrid’s Rodrygo and even Vinicius Jnr, however, the most likely new addition seems to be Yan Diomande at RB Leipzig who Liverpool are reported to be leading the race for amid interest from across Europe.
Why Liverpool are linked with Yan Diomande
The teenage winger has been in fine form for the Bundesliga outfit this season with x goals and x assists, and is set to move on and join his fourth club before he turns 20, each time the price tag going up and up. The fee being reported is £80m, although there is also a release clause of £87m that has been widely claimed and accepted as being gospel. Either way, whoever wants him, will have to stump up a serious amount of cash.
Compared to both Erling Haaland, due to his breakthrough and impact at such a young age, and also Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, a player who remains one of the most dynamic wingers in European football and capable of turning defence into attack with one swivel of his hips. This is the type of player that Liverpool needs to soften the blow of losing Mohamed Salah in the summer when he inevitably moves to MLS or Saudi Arabia and to ease the frustration of seeing Cody Gakpo doing the same thing over, and over again, as he cuts inside onto his favoured right foot looking for a shot at goal.
What is the latest on Diomande to Liverpool?
There has been an update on Diomande’s situation with TEAMtalk claiming that Leipzig have yet to sit down and discuss the winger’s future with any of the interested teams: “As it stands nothing is agreed. The only thing we currently know is that Yan is determined to help Leipzig finish in the top-four before then focussing on the World Cup with Ivory Coast. There is no denying the interest, nobody has. But let’s see how the coming months pan out,” a source close to Diomande’s camp explained.
