Just in: Fabrizio Romano says Man Utd would 'absolutely love' to sign 'elite' £100m+ star this…

Manchester United would 'absolutely love' to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson this summer, according to GIVEMESPORT senior reporter Fabrizio Romano.

GMS sources have long revealed that United want to sign two top central midfielders this summer, to bolster what is seen as one of the weakest areas of the team right now.

While Kobbie Mainoo has been rejuvenated since Michael Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim at the helm, Casemiro will leave Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the season, while Manuel Ugarte's move from Paris Saint-Germain simply hasn't worked out.

Man United will be short of quality and depth next season, and new additions are needed to boost the squad.

Man United 'Closely Monitoring' Elliot Anderson

One of the key attributes United appear to be looking for in their new midfielders is that they have Premier League experience.

Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, Brighton and Hove Albion's Carlos Baleba, Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali and Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton are all primary targets, alongside Stuttgart's Angelo Stiller, according to GMS sources.

Now, Romano has confirmed on his YouTube account on Tuesday evening that the Red Devils would 'absolutely love' to sign Anderson from Forest this summer.

The Italian journalist said:

"From Nottingham Forest, the name they absolutely appreciate, I would say they absolutely love, at Manchester United is Elliot Anderson.

"He's doing fantastic at Nottingham Forest. English, talented, so a player they are really closely monitoring. So Anderson is on the list at Manchester United, yes, but is he the only name? No, because May United's situation in midfield will depend on several factors."

It was reported late in 2025 that Forest rated Anderson at £100m+, so it will be interesting to see if that is the fee needed for United to sign him this summer, given Baleba, Wharton and Tonali are all said to be valued at around the same number by their clubs.

Anderson has been described as 'elite' by England boss Thomas Tuchel after becoming a regular for the Three Lions, and he has been one of Forest's standout performers across 34 appearances in all competitions despite their struggles in the Premier League.

United Looking at Second Forest Midfielder

Ibrahim Sangare-1

GIVEMESPORT sources revealed on Monday that United's recruitment team have been impressed by the performances of Anderson's teammate Ibrahim Sangare, who is more in the mold of Casemiro than some of the aforementioned midfield targets.

The 6 ft 3 destroyer has previously been described as a mix of Claude Makelele and Marcel Desailly, and he would bring some steel and power to the Red Devils' central midfield.

One positive of signing Sangare is that he is likely to be a more cost-effective option for United should they be quoted £100m or similar for their other midfield targets.
