Manchester United are said to be monitoring Morgan Gibbs-White and could make a sensational move to bring him AND his Nottingham Forest team-mate, Elliot Anderson, to Old Trafford in the summer.

It has been well documented that United are set to prioritise midfielders in the next transfer window in a bid to revamp their engine room and Anderson, who has enjoyed a stellar year for club and country, is admired, though competition for the 23-year-old's signature is likely to be fierce.

Nottingham Forest are expected to demand a monster £100million fee in order to part with their star midfielder - and another of their top stars is also being courted by United.

The Mail claim that Gibbs-White, 27, is being tracked by United and a host of other Premier League clubs who are ready to try and take advantage if Forest succumb to relegation.

United could be hampered in any bid to sign Gibbs-White or Anderson, though, by their new pay structure as the club bid to drive down their wage bill. And that could open the door for Manchester City, with the report claiming United's bitter rivals are also keen on both players.

Gibbs-White is understood to have a release clause in the new contract he signed following the collapse of a mooted £60m move to Tottenham last summer and could even be in demand if Vitor Pereira manages to steer Nottingham Forest to safety.

The same can be said for Anderson, who has emerged as a fixture in the England first-team under Thomas Tuchel.

Finishing in the top four and qualifying for the Champions League would bring a significant financial boost for United, who could bank more than £100m if Michael Carrick can maintain their current impressive form.

Their spending power could be boosted further by offloading several of their highest earning players, with Casemiro - who earns around £375,000 a week, already confirmed to be leaving.

Jadon Sancho, reported to be on £250,000 a week, is also likely to depart for good, while the expectation is that Marcus Rashford will make his loan move to Barcelona permanent.
