Newcastle United are into the last 16 of the Champions League after securing a 3-2win over Qarabag in tonight's second leg at St James' Park, to go through 9-3 on aggregate.

Goals from Sandro Tonali, Joelinton and Sven Botman ensured a safe passage although the Azerbaijani outfit produced a spirited second-half fightback.

It means Eddie Howe's side will be in the draw for the next stage of the competition, where they already know they will face either Chelsea or Barcelona.

The draw for the last 16 is predetermined based on your final position in the league stage, with Newcastle's 11th-placed finish meaning they will face either of the two sides who completed the group programme in fifth (Barcelona) and sixth (Chelsea).

Newcastle will also find out their potential path all the way to the final, with the draw made for the quarter-finals and semi-finals this week.

When is the Champions League last 16 draw?

The draw will take place on Friday, February 27 in UEFA's headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, getting under way at 11am UK time.

When are the Round of 16 games played?

The first legs will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 10-11, with the second legs played a week later on March 17-18.

As Newcastle will be classed as the lower ranked side, they will play the home leg first.

If United are drawn against Chelsea, it will mean they will play Liam Rosenior's side three times in the space of a week, with the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge scheduled for Saturday, March 14 (5.30pm).

Who can Newcastle get in the quarter-finals?

Newcastle are in the blue path to the final, which has determined who they face in the quarter-finals. We know that they will come up against either Liverpool, Tottenham or Atletico Madrid.
