NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):
6 Ramsdale: Was unfortunate that his penalty save was followed up by Qarabag scoring from the rebound
6 Trippier: Wasn’t extended defensively and delivered some useful crosses into the penalty area
6 Botman: Good to see him back in action – added to his goals tally with a powerful second-half header
5 Burn: Had a couple of shaky moments, being outpaced for the first goal and conceding a penalty
7 A Murphy: Can be extremely pleased with his first start – did well as both a full-back and a centre-half
7 Joelinton: Got some useful minutes into his legs and scored with a thumping first-time volley
8 TONALI: Set the tone for Newcastle’s win with his opening goal and was the dominant figure in midfield throughout the game
6 Woltemade: Playing in midfield still doesn’t seem to come particularly naturally to him
6 J Murphy: Made some driving runs down the right and came close with a shot that flashed just wide of the post
5 Osula: Ran around enthusiastically enough, but continues to look some way short of where Newcastle would ideally want him to be
7 Barnes: Was involved in both of Newcastle’s opening two goals – is clearly relishing life in the Champions League
Subs:
6 Hall (for Trippier, 53): Was able to cruise through the second half after getting a deserved rest
6 Gordon (for Joelinton, 53): Made some eye-catching bursts down the left flank in the closing stages
5 Willock (for Botman, 53): Didn’t add a lot after coming on the field at the start of the second half
Wissa (for Osula, 73)
Shahar (for J Murphy, 87)

QARABAG (5-4-1):
Kochalski 5; Bolt 4, Silva 4, B Huseynov 4, Medina 4, Jafarquilyev 5 (Bayramov 78); Montiel 5 (Kady 62, 4), Bicalho 5, Jankovic 4 (Gurbanli 78), Zoubir 5 (Addai 78); DURAN 6 (Kashchuk 69, 5).
Subs (not used): Ramazanov (gk), Buntic (gk), Cabrayilzada, A Huseynov, Andrade.
Man Of The Match: SANDRO TONALI – The Italian was the best player on the pitch as he dictated things at the heart of midfield.
