Opinion: I watched Harrison Armstrong show his mettle again for Everton in spiky Bruno…

Harrison Armstrong has the mentality to play in the Premier League for years to come, and his exchange with Bruno Fernandes was a further suggestion of that.

David Moyes handed Harrison Armstrong another start on Monday night, with the youngster taking up a wide role.

What’s your thoughts after that, Toffees? 😫

Fans weren’t overly pleased, but the frustrations were directed at the manager and not the academy product, who gave a typically committed display.

And there was one impressive moment involving Armstrong that really did hammer home what a great mentality he has.

Harrison Armstrong vs Bruno Fernandes

Armstrong should not be playing out on the wing regularly for Everton.

Perhaps he could be brought in to do a job here and there. But Moyes is definitely wasting him by shunting him out wide.

It’s also baffling to see, given Everton brought in Tyrique George who looks a livewire.

Despite being out of position on Monday night, Armstrong did not shy away whatsoever against United – and I thought his tangle with Bruno Fernandes was great to see.

In the 68th minute, the game was briefly stopped as referee Darren England diffused a flashpoint involving Armstrong and Fernandes.

It seemed Fernandes got a little to close to Armstrong after the ball had gone out for an Everton corner. He pushed the United captain away, which he didn’t like.

Fernandes came back at Armstrong with a look of surprise on his face, as if he was almost taken aback by the Everton man standing his ground.

Armstrong then gave Fernandes a second push as his rival got up in his face demanding answers.

Armstrong’s mentality and personality will take him far, as well as his talent

It was good to see Armstrong sticking up for himself, and not wilting under confrontation from United captain Fernandes.

He is clearly a confident lad, and someone who can look out for himself. I think it has to be seen as a positive, as it will to shape and develop him.

It is actually the second time in the space of a few weeks that Armstrong has been involved in a small scuffle. Against Aston Villa, Armstrong stood up for himself after Matty Cash took issue with him after a crunching challenge.

It’s clear these kinds of situations don’t intimidate him, and the youngster’s personality and mentality are sure to see him go far.

The Premier League can be intense and unforgiving. But Everton’s young star is taking it all in his stride.
