Jacob Ramsey injury scan results revealed as Newcastle United dealt concern ahead of Everton

Newcastle United injuries: Jacob Ramsey sat out Newcastle’s 3-2 Champions League win over Qarabag due to a hamstring issue.

Newcastle United were dealt a fresh injury concern this week with Jacob Ramsey ruled out against Qarabag on Tuesday night.

The former Aston Villa midfielder had started six of Newcastle’s last eight games heading into the Champions League second leg match at St James’ Park.

The Magpies went into the game with a 6-1 advantage from the first leg and were able to secure progress with a 3-2 victory on the night. Sandro Tonali, Joelinton and Sven Botman scored for The Magpies, who will face either Barcelona or Chelsea in the last-16 with the draw set to take place on Friday.

But a more pressing matter for Eddie Howe’s side is a return to Premier League action against Everton at St James’ Park on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

While Newcastle have impressed and progressed in the cup competitions, they sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table with 11 games left to play.

Unless they win the Champions League or FA Cup, Newcastle will have to put a stop to their inconsistent league form in order to secure European football once again. They currently sit 11th in the table, nine points off the top five.

A top-five finish is set to secure Champions League qualification once again in the Premier League with all six English clubs progressing to the last-16 of the competition.

But Newcastle will have to combat their current injury problems with several key players missing at the moment.

Howe welcomed Sven Botman and Yoane Wissa back after missing the previous three games. Botman started and scored in the match while Wissa was a second-half substitute.

But Ramsey was one of five players ruled out against Qarabag due to injury. Bruno Guimaraes, Lewis Miley, Tino Livramento, Fabian Schar are all currently sidelined while Emil Krafth is ineligible to feature having been removed from Newcastle’s Champions League squad due to a season-ending knee injury.

Jacob Ramsey injury scan update

Ramsey was pictured in training on Monday ahead of the Qarabag match before being absent at St James’ Park.

As reported by The Gazette ahead of the game, the 24-year-old missed out due to a hamstring problem.

But it was confirmed by Howe afterwards that the issue is not serious and it is hoped Ramsey will be back part of the matchday squad against Everton.

“We hope so,” Howe said. “It’s nothing serious. He felt tightness in his hamstring.

“The scan was clear. Hopefully it improves quickly and he’s back for the next game.”

Another return for Everton?

No other players are expected to be back involved for the Everton match though Miley is understood to be the closest.

Last week, Howe told The Gazette: “I don't think he's too far away. Nothing more than a week, a couple of weeks maximum. But I think we've been told that we've got to be careful with it.”

Following the Everton match, Newcastle’s busy fixture schedule continues with Manchester United up next in the Premier League next Wednesday night at St James’ Park.
