Manager wanted by West Brom and Burnley now keen to join Crystal Palace - journalist

Crystal Palace have been given a boost in their pursuit of a potential long-term replacement for Oliver Glasner, but it also comes as potential bad news for West Brom and Burnley.

Palace beat Wolves on Sunday, but it was only their second win in 16 games across all competitions.

The fans had their banners ready before the final whistle had even blown.

"Opportunities missed. Board inept. Fans disrespected. Glasner finished."

That was the message held aloft inside Selhurst Park — directed not at the opposition, but at their own manager, even as three points went into the bag.

It was a stark illustration of just how badly the relationship between Glasner and the Palace faithful has broken down, and how little goodwill remains for a man who, less than 12 months ago, was being celebrated as a club hero after delivering a remarkable double of trophies.

The Austrian's position has been deteriorating for weeks.

He stunned observers with a press conference after their draw with Bosnian minnows Zrinjski, in which he appeared to all but throw his hands up, admitting he was simply not capable of coping with the demands placed on his squad this season.

Crystal Palace now trying to persuade ex-Middlesbrough boss to replace Glasner after Parish U-turn

The Eagles were believed to be settled on letting their boss see out the season.

He could not replace those who had left, he said. He could not integrate the new arrivals. He could not manage the schedule. It was an extraordinary admission from a manager still in employment, and one that has continued to rattle around the corridors at Selhurst Park ever since.

Talks between Glasner and the board have taken place about his future, and the current understanding is that he will see out the remainder of the season before departing at the end of his contract.

Steve Parish has decided, for now, not to pull the trigger early. But Palace are already making plans. Quietly, behind the scenes, the search for a new manager is well underway.

Palace have been linked with club legend Gareth Southgate, who has been out of work since leaving England in 2024, as well as former Tottenham boss Thomas Frank.

Frank is said to be a leading contender for Palace, but there is another ex-Premier League boss who is keen to throw his hat in the ring.

Former Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche was sacked by the Tricky Trees earlier this month and is drawing interest from West Brom and Burnley.

However, the tactician has apparently got his eyes on the Selhurst Park job.

Sean Dyche keen on Crystal Palace job after Nottingham Forest sack

As per Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke, Dyche has made known his interest in speaking with Palace about replacing Glasner.

The 54-year-old's reign at Forest lasted less than four months, and despite winning six of his 18 league games in charge, and recording a pretty respectable win percentage overall, it was not enough to save his position after a slide.

Before Forest, Dyche spent two years at Everton, keeping them up in consecutive seasons when many thought they were doomed, and the Englishman was hailed for the 'remarkable' job he did.

‘I mean what he’s had to go through with two points deductions and he’s still managed to keep everybody together and he’s still kept that spirit within," said TNT Sports' Darren Fletcher in 2024.

"He’s gone through a period where they couldn’t win, double figures couldn’t win, and he still managed to keep them up.

"I think it’s a remarkable job that he’s done based on everything that’s been thrown at him.

"And let’s not forget, the summer that he had, he could do virtually nothing by way of strengthening the squad to the level that he wanted to, and he’s still managed with everything that’s been landed on his lap, been able to keep this team in the Premier League relatively comfortably."

Dyche also won a Championship title with Burnley and kept them in the top flight for years, again on a shoe-string budget.

He is understood to view the Palace role as a genuine opportunity to return to Premier League management and would welcome discussions with the club.

However, while Dyche is on the list, he is not currently near the top of it. Palace have plenty of options, and Frank remains the priority.
