Senne Lammens has grown in stature since signing for Man United and he has caught the eye of an Old Trafford legend.

If one decision summed up the difference between the direction Manchester United wanted to go in compared to Ruben Amorim last summer it was the choice of who would be their new goalkeeper.

Amorim wanted Emi Martinez, an experienced pair of hands, but a player who has already peaked and who time will soon catch up on. United sign Senne Lammens for around £18m instead and the 23-year old Belgian has looked increasingly assured between the sticks, especially for his first season at the club. Bigger personalities and more experienced no.1s have struggled to settle as quickly.

Steve Bruce loves what he’s seen from Senne Lammens

Against Everton, Lammens had to deal with an onslaught from set-pieces. David Moyes has loaded his team with giants and, at one point, there were six players over 6ft 2inches tall blocking his path to the ball and still managed to clear almost every ball that was thrown in under his cross-bar.

One man who was impressed and who knows what a good keeper looks like having played with a club legend, is Steve Bruce who, on TalkSPORT commentary duties said of Lammens: “Well, he looks like a really, really good goalkeeper, for somebody who only just started learning his trade in Belgium, he looks like a real class act, no matter what Everton threw at him, with a high ball and it was like a scrum in there at the finish, it was more like a game of rugby, the way they were competing with it, and he stood up and he got a fist to it, caught it, and he was immaculate, the two or three shots down by his right-hand side, didn't spill them, looks a real, real good goalkeeper, I'm delighted for him.”

What Michael Carrick has said about Senne Lammens

The defence has been much-improved with Lammens behind them calling the shots and Carrick accepts that it is easy to see why his calming presence is being compared to that of former Old Trafford favourite Edwin van der Sar, via the club’s official wesbite: "I definitely see the similarities, without comparing them. I don't want to be comparing them because I don't think it's fair to Senne. But there's definitely similarities," said Carrick.

"For me, he's a goalkeeper to be reliable, be trustworthy. Instead of creating chaos, you want him to take the chaos away and calm things down. I think Senne is that. He's quite quiet at times and unassuming, but he's got a real steel. How he's gone about it at the moment is with calmness, with composure. I think it does help those in front of him an awful lot."
