Why Chelsea fans shouldn't panic about Blues qualifying for the Champions League this season - opinion

Consecutive draws in the Premier League have left the Chelsea fanbase very concerned about their chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season, although this is still very much in our hands.

It is almost a certainty that the top five finishing sides in England this season will qualify for Europe’s primary competition, and there is a real race on to secure one of those spots.

Chelsea are level on points with Liverpool, although are within six points of both Aston Villa and Manchester United.

The Blues have a particularly daunting set of fixtures between now and the end of the season, but the fact they still have to play all three sides around them is a massive advantage.

All three of those fixtures provide Liam Rosenior’s side the perfect chance to make a statement that their season will not be defined by the last two games, where they dropped points to Leeds and Burnley.

Even including those two disappointing results, Chelsea still sit second in the form table over the last six games, only behind Michael Carrick’s United.

Last season under Enzo Maresca, the Blues found themselves in a very similar position, with some supporters starting to give up hope of a top five finish.

However, an immense end to the campaign, culminating in a 1-0 away win against fellow contenders Nottingham Forest, saw them end up finishing fourth.

Chelsea have done it before, and they have the quality to do it again, although this season they also have another route to qualifying for the Champions League.

Chelsea can win the Champions League and qualify for next season’s edition

Twice in the past have Chelsea changed their manager midway through the season which has ended up with them winning the Champions League.

The Blues proved their worth in knockout football during the Club World Cup, beating PSG in the final. They could face the Ligue 1 side in the next round.

Chelsea will want to avoid facing Newcastle on the big European stage given how much of an impact their fans can make, and the fact they have just won their play-off 9-3 on aggregate.

The Blues will find out on Friday who their next opponent will be, and their squad depth should leave them confident they can have a real go at winning the whole thing.
