Dave Grohl was asked whether Paul McCartney would join Foo Fighters on stage at Anfield this summer. Foo Fighters fans could tune in to Absolute Radio's Dave Berry Breakfast on Monday, February 23 to hear the band talk about their new album, upcoming tour and more.

Foo Fighters will perform at Anfield Stadium this summer on June 25 and 27. This isn't the first time Foo Fighters frontman Dave has performed at Anfield as he joined Paul McCartney on stage in 2008 for the legendary Beatle's show in celebration of Capital of Culture.

While the band appeared on his show, Dave Berry asked whether Paul McCartney would "return the favour" and join the band on stage. Dave said: "When I first found out we were doing that gig I let him know and he was like, 'Oh you're going to have a blast, it'll be amazing.'

"Yeah, Liverpool's awesome, that place is great! I was actually surprised we're only doing two shows in the UK on that trip.

"I think that we should do more."

Lead guitarist Chris Shiflett said: "Do you know we have never played Liverpool in the years I've been in the band? I've never been to Liverpool in my life.

"I'm going to do all the tourist stuff for sure."

The US band announced its Liverpool shows by sharing a cryptic snap of the seats at Liverpool FC's stadium emblazoned with the "FF" initials.

Fans were left questioning what the post could mean before the two dates were confirmed.

Along with Foo Fighters, Anfield will be hosting Zach Bryan and My Chemical Romance this summer after the conclusion of Liverpool FC's season.

The current Foo Fighters lineup is Dave Grohl (vocals, guitar), Nate Mendel (bass), Pat Smear (guitar), Chris Shiflett (guitar), Rami Jaffee (keyboards), and Ilan Rubin (drums). Ilan Rubin joined as the drummer this year, after the departure of Josh Freese.
