Manchester United duo Bryan Mbeumo and Joshua Zirkzee have now talked up the importance of the standards that Lisandro Martinez has set at Old Trafford.

The 28-year-old Argentine defender was sidelined for the second half of the previous campaign after he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Crystal Palace.

Martinez’s injury setback last February came to an end in November 2025 after he made his return for Man Utd against Crystal Palace in the 2-1 win at Selhurst Park.

The Man Utd duo were asked which Red Devils player felt most ‘locked in’ during a training session at the Premier League club, with Martinez singled out by the pair.

“Licha, I would say,” Mbeumo said on Inside Carrington.

Zirkzee added: “I would also say Licha.

“Everyone has their own way of being focused. I think everyone is very focused during training. But I think with Licha, it’s definitely most visible.”

Lisandro Martinez’s importance to Man Utd interim head coach Michael Carrick has been clear as day at Old Trafford

Martinez’s minutes were built up under Ruben Amorim after the former Ajax ace made his return in 2025 from his lengthy time on the sidelines due to his injury.

Amorim was sacked as Man Utd manager in January, but Michael Carrick has relied on Martinez as a key defensive pick in his tactical set-up since his appointment.

Martinez had started alongside Harry Maguire and played the full 90 minutes in Michael Carrick’s first five Premier League matches in charge as interim boss.

However, the Argentina international was absent from Man Utd’s 1-0 win over Everton on Monday after he was ruled out of action due to a suspected calf injury.
