Man United still have a lot of money being wasted on their wage bill and one more high earner could be heading out the door.

It has taken Manchester United a long time to move on from their years of waste and poor recruitment.

The fact is, they are still having to deal with the fall-out. Jadon Sancho might join Aston Villa on a permanent deal when his contract expires, that United aren’t taking up the option to extend his contract says it all. They don’t want to risk having to pay his salary for any longer than they have to. Michael Carrick is keen to have Marcus Rashford back at Old Trafford, but he might not get the choice.

Man United clear out continues

Between them, and the departure of Casemiro, there will be a lot of money being freed up on United’s wage bill as they move away from the mega-bucks salaries of the past. The best example though, is between the posts with Red Devils flop Andre Onana being allowed to leave on loan last summer and Senne Lammens being trusted to make the no.1 position his own in his first season.

Man United plan to sell Andre Onana

Whilst Onana brought chaos, Lammens brings calm. A quality that has benefitted the defence in front of him to the extent that United are no longer interested in keeping Onana at the club when he returns in the summer, according to TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook: “Manchester United plan to sell flop goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer. Onana was shipped out on loan to Trabzonspor in September following a horror show in United’s humiliating EFL Cup defeat at League Two Grimsby.

“But with the Turkish side unlikely to try to keep him permanently, talkSPORT understands Man United have no plans to reintegrate the Cameroonian international into their first-team. Old Trafford officials know they will need to take a hit on the near £50million they paid Inter Milan for Onana at the behest of Erik ten Hag in the summer of 2023. United are expected to bring in a replacement for Onana, especially with veteran Tom Heaton’s contract expiring and doubts over the future of Altay Bayindir.”
