Opta predicts Leeds United to reach massive points total, just 2.2% chance of relegation

Leeds United’s path to Premier League survival is looking increasingly secure, thanks to a favourable injury situation and a realistic points target, and Opta have provided their prediction.

The Whites currently sit in 15th place with 31 points, six points clear of the relegation zone. Manager Daniel Farke has a near-full squad to navigate the crucial final stretch of the season.

Following a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Aston Villa, Leeds fans have reason to be optimistic. Despite the disappointment of conceding, rivals West Ham, Forest, and Tottenham all failed to gain ground.

Opta predict Leeds United will reach a whopping 45 points!

Leeds currently have 31 points, with 11 games to play.

Predictions from Opta indicate that Leeds will finish the season with 45 points, which would comfortably secure their Premier League status. This projection gives them a mere 2.2% chance of relegation.

Leeds are on course to reach the magical 40-point mark

Leeds United’s survival strategy is bolstered by a manageable points target. Angus Kinnear, the club’s former CEO, said that 36 points might be sufficient to stave off relegation.

However, BBC Sports journalist Adam Pope suggests that 38 points could be the safer benchmark. With 11 games remaining, Leeds need just five to seven more points to meet these expectations.

Upcoming fixtures present a mix of challenges and opportunities. Leeds face Man City next, but with Sunderland, Brentford, and Burnley still to visit Elland Road, there are winnable games on the horizon.

Injury boost for Farke

One of the most encouraging aspects of Leeds’ current situation is the minimal injury list. Farke can rely on a largely fit squad to tackle the remaining fixtures, a stark contrast to some of their relegation rivals.

This near-full squad availability allows Farke to field his strongest line-ups in the league while also giving him the flexibility to rest key players in the FA Cup, where they face Norwich City in the fifth round.

While the squad’s health is a positive, individual performances must also rise to the occasion. Brenden Aaronson and Ilia Gruev had off days against Villa, highlighting the need for consistency.

Farke’s management will be tested as he seeks to maintain defensive solidity while also pushing for the points needed to secure survival, but as things stand, Leeds have enough to go and reach 40 points.
