The Lancashire-based official will take charge of Albion’s game at home to Arsenal.
He had the whistle when the same two clubs met at the Emirates last season and Declan Rice was sent off
Kavanagh was at the centre of controversy for his VAR-free handling of the recent FA Cup tie between Aston Villa and Newcastle.
Key talking points included the award of a Tammy Abraham goal when he was clearly offside and failure to give a penalty when Villa defender Lucas Digne handled in his own box.
Kavanagh was stood down for last weekend’s fixtures.
He will return to action by refereeing Manchester United v Crystal Palace on Sunday.
That is followed the visit of the leaders to Falmer next Wednesday.
Kavanagh was last at the Amex when Everton grabbed a 1-1 draw with a goal some felt should have been disallowed for offside.
He also refereed the 2-1 win over Brentford in which the visitors were awarded two penalties.
Last season, he reluctantly sent rice off against Albion for a second yellow after he nudged the ball away as Joel Veltman looked to take a quick free-kick.
So far this season, in 32 matches, he has shown 124 yellow cards and three reds.
Before that, Andy Madley – who was Kavanagh’s video assistant when Rice was dismissed - will referee Albion’s game with Nottingham Forest.
The full officiating team for Albion v Arsenal is as follows.
Referee: Chris Kavanagh. Assistants: Dan Cook, Ian Hussin. Fourth official: David Webb. VAR: Michael Salisbury. Assistant VAR: Sian Massey-Ellis.
