Argentina are confident that Lisandro Martinez’s latest injury is not a lengthy one despite his absence from Manchester United’s victory over Everton.
That’s according to Eldopolis. The Argentine outlet cover the defender today and the optimism from the Argentine camp.
Martinez was rested for the win over Everton on Monday due to discomfort in a calf muscle. That set the alarm bells ringing in the Argentina set up, who want him for the Finalissima in March. A long calf muscle injury could have ruled him out.
But medical tests have confirmed that the injury is not a bad one. In fact, the Argentine coaching staff are confident that the 28-year-old will be able to resume training in the coming days.
Manchester United get big boost
They think he will be ‘in good form’ by the time the match against Spain. That’s scheduled for March 27th in Qatar. There are no major concerns about the Manchester United defender at this point.
Martinez, of course, only recently returned from a lengthy rehabilitation following a serious knee injury that sidelined him for most of 2025.
He ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in a clash with Crystal Palace in February last year. That saw him spend nine month on the sidelines following surgery.
Why there’s no desire to risk things
Lisandro Martinez’s official return was against the same opponents in November. But Manchester United have been taking it easy with the defender ever since. They will likely do the same on this calf injury, something Argentina will agree on.
Martinez has been a key player and regular starter under Lionel Scaloni after being a rotation option in the 2022 World Cup.
Now he’s the number one partner alongside Cristian Romero, hence their concern about this latest blow.
They want him fit and firing for when they take on Spain next month, and it seems there’s optimism that will be the case.
