Ex-Manchester United coach Eric Ramsay has been sacked by West Bromwich Albion after just nine games in charge.

The 34-year-old was hired by the Championship side last month after they sacked ex-Tottenham and England midfielder Ryan Mason. Ramsay - who worked under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford - failed to win a single game at the Hawthorns.

His departure was announced on Tuesday night at 11:15pm, hours after their 1-1 draw at home against Charlton Athletic. The brief statement read: "West Bromwich Albion have parted company with men’s first team Head Coach Eric Ramsay.

"Assistant Head Coach Dennis Lawrence has also departed The Hawthorns. The club would like to place on record its thanks to Eric and Dennis and wishes them well for the future. First Team Coach James Morrison will oversee first-team affairs on an interim basis."

West Brom sit 21st in the table and just one point above the relegation zone with 12 games to go. Ramsay's short and unsuccessful stint at the club came after a two-year spell with Minnesota United in Major League Soccer.

Before his move to the United States, Ramsay spent almost three years at United as a first-team coach. Initially joining the club in 2021 as a player development coach under Solskjaer, his importance in the coaching set-up grew.

Ramsay was also able to integrate United's foreign signings, such as Casemiro, due to speaking both fluent Spanish and French. Alongside his club duties, Ramsay joined the Wales national football team as an assistant coach in 2023.

Speaking on Ramsay's announcement, then-Wales boss Rob Page said: "Eric is arguably one of the best young coaches in football at this moment in time." He lasted just six months with the national team as he left his role to focus on United.

After West Brom's draw to Charlton, Ramsay admitted that he wasn't blameless for the club's 10-match winless streak - with two of those defeats coming before his appointment. He told BBC WM: "The question around my job and the future is never one I can ever answer or attempt to answer.

"I can only do what I can do over the course of a day and put my head on the pillow at night feeling I've turned over every stone. I'm not saying I'm blameless - I can only feel I've controlled what I can control."
