Man United paid a lot of money for Benjamin Sesko in the summer, is he now starting to pay off that fee?

Perhaps the biggest beneficiary though is Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian striker arrived at Old Trafford with a growing reputation and a goal every three games in 40-odd caps for Slovenia at the tender age of 22. For £75m, United were buying potential and a ready-made no.9 to lead the line. A well reported slow start is now a distant memory though with his latest winning goal against Everton the latest instalment to be paid towards his bumper transfer fee.

After Ruben Amorim was sacked, United moved to a more traditional 4-2-3-1 formation which has seen Sesko score six times in seven appearances across all competitions. That is the type of return expected from a £75m signing. His confidence is high and he could wel lbe the difference between making the top three or missing out on Champions League football altogether.

Should Sesko be starting for United?

Speaking on TalkSPORT whilst on commentary duties for the clash at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, Steve Bruce reckons that Sesko has left Carrick with a decision to make: “To be fair, I don't think he had a kick apart from score the goal. But there's that conundrum for Michael now, who was saying, certainly, how can I get him in the team? Do I leave him in the team?

“Do I start him? The big decision, but you wouldn't want to alter anything at the moment. If he keeps coming on and he's fresh and people are tired, then he's got the ability to score and he has done a great finish, I have to say, a great finish.”

Carrick can now afford to pick on form and he has nobody in his squad as red-hot as Sesko in what is shaping up to be an exciting race for the Champions League places.
