Morgan Rogers has been enjoying another strong season for Aston Villa.

Having established himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League following his move from Middlesbrough in the 2024 winter transfer window, Rogers looks set for a long and successful career.

The 23-year-old registered a fantastic 2024-25 season at Villa Park, scoring 14 times and providing 13 assists in 54 total appearances, as well as becoming a regular for England too.

Once again, Rogers has been in good form for Aston Villa this season, and has played a big part in Unai Emery‘s sides’ Premier League title push, which they unfortunately now look to realistically be out of.

Morgan Rogers isn’t finished article yet

However, despite his solid eight goals and five assists in 27 Premier League appearances this season, Rogers still has some areas for improvement.

There’s no doubting that the attacker can go right to the very top of the game, but if he wants to be recognised as one of the best in his position in world football, then he still has a way to go.

As per Sofascore, Rogers is only winning 35 per cent of his duels in the Premier League this season, and is posting a 33 per cent dribble success rate and a 76 per cent passing accuracy.

All of those numbers need to improve given the position he plays, as the number 10 is the vital cog that links the attack and midfield together, and often involves having to win the physical battle due to operating in the centre.

Meanwhile, he’s also registering a mere five per cent crossing accuracy, posting less than a shot on target per game, and is winning the ball back in the final third an average of 0.6 times per game.

That last stat in particular is pretty surprising, and if he could improve upon that number, he may well add an extra handful of goal contributions to his tally.

Villa need Rogers at his best right now

It’s inarguable that when Rogers is at his brilliant best, there’s no real stopping him, but he’s not there at this moment in time.

Just one goal in his last five total appearances speaks to that, and it’s probably no coincidence that Villa have failed to win four of those last five games.

But, with Villa’s attention now turning towards solidifying their place in the Champions League spots, Emery needs his number 27 firing on all cylinders again.

An away trip to Wolves on Friday night seems like an ideal opportunity for Rogers to get back amongst the goals, ahead of two huge games against Chelsea and Man United afterwards.
