Man Utd loanee Radek Vitek helps Bristol City secure win over Blackburn Rovers

Radek Vitek helped Bristol City with a match-winning display against Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night.

Manchester United have a long list of players out on loan, but few have had the impact Radek Vitek has at Bristol City.

Despite a disappointing performance against Derby County in January, Vitek has been phenomenal for Bristol, who currently sit eighth in the Championship table.

Radek Vitek voted man of the match against Blackburn Rovers

In a hard-fought 2-1 win for Bristol City, Vitek stood tall between the sticks to help Gerhard Struber’s side secure three points against Blackburn Rovers.

Bristol took the lead in the first half and dealt with pressure from Blackburn in the second half.

Scott Twine scored the opener, while Vitek produced several important saves in the second half, especially one in stoppage-time that can only be described as a match-winning save.

It was a routine display for Vitek in the first half, but the United loanee was forced to work hard after the interval.

Vitek made six saves in total against Blackburn Rovers and conceded one goal.

The 22-year-old also punched the ball away on two occasions and had to make two high claims on top of nine recoveries to help Bristol’s defence when under pressure.

Bristol announced on social media after the match that Vitek was voted man of the match for his impressive display.

The next game for Bristol and Vitek will see them host Watford on Friday.

Phil Jones has joined Blackburn Rovers coaching staff

There was a familiar face in the Blackburn Rovers dugout as far as United fans are concerned.

It has been over a week since Phil Jones completed a return to Blackburn Rovers in a coaching role.

The 33-year-old began his career in Blackburn Rovers’ academy in 2002 before breaking into the first team and earning a transfer to United.

Jones made 40 appearances for Blackburn Rovers before departing Ewood Park.

The former England international went on to spend 12 years at Old Trafford, making 229 appearances before injuries forced him into early retirement.

Jones accepted a role as part of Michael O’Neill’s coaching staff until the end of the season, while the manager juggles his role as Northern Ireland boss.

The result against Bristol City will come as a disappointment for O’Neill, Jones and the rest of the coaching staff.
