Daniel Farke outcast closing in on permanent Elland Road exit this summer amid major update

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke

During Daniel Farke’s tenure at Leeds United, there have been multiple players who have struggled to establish themselves as regular starters under the German.

This season, we are seeing the same thing happen to the likes of Ao Tanaka and Willy Gnonto, with the pair’s inability to break into the team being discussed recently by Graham Smyth.

Facundo Buonanotte is also suffering a similar fate, with Djed Spence being another example of a player from a previous season who was not entirely in Farke’s good books during his stint at Elland Road.

However, another one of those who has been an outcast under Farke looks more and more likely to leave the Whites permanently this summer after already leaving Leeds on loan this season.

Hull City sporting director desperate for Joe Gelhardt to join permanently

Gelhardt, 23, was never really a part of Farke’s plans when the German took over at United back in 2023.

The youngster was limited to just two starts in Farke’s first season in charge, with Leeds, despite being in the Championship, before joining Hull City on loan midway through last season, with Gelhardt’s five goals helping them to stay in the second tier.

The Englishman rejoined the Tigers on loan again this season, with his performances being a vital reason as to why Hull currently sit in fourth in the Championship.

During a recent interview with Hull Live, Hull City sporting director Jared Dublin understandably claimed that he wants Gelhardt’s loan move to the East Yorkshire outfit to become a permanent one this summer.

When asked about the discussions that have occurred between Leeds and Hull over a potential deal for Gelhardt, Dublin said:

“Division being probably the most important, and with Joffy (Gelhardt) in particular, where Leeds are, should they maintain Premier League status or come down, so there’s loads of moving parts.

“On the Joffy one, it’s very clear. I’ve been very vocal, the chairman, the gaffer, Joffy knows how much we love him, how much we value him, how much we would love for him to continue his Hull City story. That’s case closed on that one. We’ll see what happens.”

Given Leeds are unlikely to go down at this stage, Gelhardt’s permanent move to Hull seemingly has one less obstacle to overcome.

Data suggests Joe Gelhardt has been exceptional this season

A criticism that has been frequently put to the 49ers is that, whilst the vast majority of their recruitment has been impressive, the way they have handled the potential sale of players could have been better.

Given Gelhardt’s form this season, the 49ers could very well be on course to recoup a handsome fee for their youngster, with every goal he scores only strengthening Leeds’ position in negotiations further.

Gelhardt has been instrumental for this season for a Hull side who look on course to finish in the play-offs this season, with 11 league goals in 26 appearances so far

Gelhardt’s 11 goals have come from an xG of 8.21, suggesting he has been very clinical this season

Although Farke never fully trusted Gelhardt whilst at Leeds, he may be thanking him come the end of the season if his exit provides him with extra funds to spend on his squad.
