Major injury blow as St James’ Park scorer ruled-out of Newcastle United v Everton clash

Newcastle United latest news: Everton have been handed a major injury blow and will be without one of their key players at St James’ Park on Saturday.

Everton will be without another key player when they make the trip to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

The Toffees head into that game on the back of a 1-0 defeat against Manchester United on Monday night. A Benjamin Sesko goal was enough to secure all three points for Michael Carrick’s side as they strengthened their grip on a European place.

Everton, who harbour ambitions of qualifying for Europe themselves, had to play on Monday night without Jack Grealish. The Manchester City loanee will miss the rest of the season after suffering a stress fracture to his foot.

Grealish had made 22 appearances in all competitions for Everton before injury struck, netting two goals and registering six assists. However, his last goal came way back at the beginning of December, a few days after he was unable to prevent the Magpies running wild at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

This weekend, therefore, provides Newcastle United with a chance to complete a league double over Everton. That, though, may be tricky against an Everton side that enjoy a good record at St James’ Park in recent times.

In fact, David Moyes’ side were victorious on their last visit to Tyneside on the final day of last season. The Magpies went into that game knowing that a win would guarantee them Champions League qualification, but they ended the match relying on results elsewhere after slipping to a 1-0 defeat.

Charly Alcaraz’s 65th minute goal secured the win for the visitors that day, but he won’t get the opportunity to repeat that trick this weekend after Moyes confirmed the midfielder is set for a ‘few weeks’ on the sidelines: “Charly picked up an injury in the last minute of training yesterday,” Moyes revealed. “I think we’ll probably lose him for a few weeks.”

Newcastle United injury news v Everton

Unlike his opposite number, Eddie Howe does have a number of injury issues to deal with this weekend. Newcastle United will continue to be without their captain Bruno Guimaraes who has been sidelined until April with a muscle injury.

Fabian Schar also faces a similar period of time on the sidelines with an ankle injury, whilst Emil Krafth’s season is over after he suffered a knee injury that required surgery. Tino Livramento is expected back in the next couple of weeks, but that won’t come against the Toffees this weekend.

Furthermore, Lewis Miley is also expected to miss out on Saturday. Miley suffered a muscle injury in his leg and has not been seen in action since their trip to Paris at the end of January. His return could come soon, but won’t be on Saturday.

And Howe was delivered a fresh blow this week when Jacob Ramsey was forced to miss Tuesday night’s game against Qarabag due to a ‘slight hamstring injury’. There is hope he can be fit enough to feature this weekend after missing that game.

Sven Botman and Yoane Wissa, meanwhile, returned to action against Qarabag and could both feature this weekend if required by their head coach.
