Star midfielder reacts to mounting talk of a summer move to Newcastle United

The England international, who has been valued at £100m by Forest, is reportedly attracting interest from Newcastle, who sold him in the summer of 2024 in order to avoid breaching PSR regulations, as well as Manchester City, Manchester United and a host of other top clubs.

He has been a key player for Forest since leaving his native Tyneside and looks set to be in Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI for England’s tilt at World Cup glory in the summer.

But, despite the speculation, Anderson is concentrating on his own game.

“I’m just focusing on my football at the moment and performing and trying to give everything for Nottingham Forest, really,” he said at a press conference to preview the Reds’ Europa League play-off second leg with Fenerbahce. “So that’s all that’s on my mind.

“It’s been a big two years. I think I’ve done pretty well, to be honest, in the time I’ve been here, on and off the pitch.

“I think I’ve matured as a person as well. Thanks to the club, really, for giving me that platform, going out there and playing and letting me do my stuff.”

Anderson’s exit from boyhood club Newcastle was a painful one for the Magpies, who Eddie Howe insisting he would never have even considered allowing the Whitley Bay-born midfielder to leave had his hand not been forced by financial considerations.

Anderson did not want to leave St James' Park, but he has flourished at the City Ground.

“Obviously in players’ careers, you never know where you’re going to be,” he said. “Moving from your hometown is a big step in your career.

“And it was definitely something that I needed to do and it has turned out really well. So I was happy I made that step.”

Anderson’s form has made him a firm favourite of England boss Tuchel, who has paired him with Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice.

It would take an injury or massive drop off in form for him to lose his spot now, but asked whether he saw himself as a regular, he said: “I hope so. There’s just so many good players in the England team.

“Obviously, I’ve played this year, but I’m also needing to perform in the Premier League, in the Europa League, to keep the spot."
