Newcastle United winger Anthony Elanga insists he is indebted to Eddie Howe for his support after an indifferent start to his Toon career.
Elanga has not yet hit the heights or consistency of his successful spell at Nottingham Forest and after the high of his performance at Tottenham Hotspur recently, his form has dipped once again.
Elanga will now hope to face the team in which he registered his first Premier League assist against Everton this weekend after reaching March without netting a single Premier League goal for the club since his £55m move from Nottingham Forest.
But Elanga has thanked Howe for his unwavering support for him since arriving from the City Ground, he said: "It's important that we continue to play for the manager because he's done so much for us and he's helped us so much.
"So it's now up to us to continue to do what we've been doing recently and just keep on letting our football do the talking.”
Newcastle are up against it in terms of qualifying for the Champions League via the Premier League standings. But it is not beyond the realms of possibility.
But one thing is clear, Newcastle must pick up soon in terms of top-flight results, starting with the Toffees. Elanga is convinced that the likes of himself, Nick Woltemade and Jacob Ramsey are starting to gel.
He said: "If we are trying to look further ahead, it's just about taking it game by game and we've got the squad to do so. The potential in the squad is honestly scary. It’s so good.
"It’s just up to us now to do the talking on the pitch and put in the work day in, day out, listen to what the gaffer’s saying and how he wants us to play. And the bare minimum is just working hard, and then the rest will just naturally flow.
"We’ll also develop even more. When you’ve got a manager like Eddie, it’s a no-brainer.
"We'll continue to build and just stay focused on consistency and I'm sure we'll be fine."
