Manchester United could submit a ‘very tempting offer’ for Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye as he enjoys the best season of his career.
That’s according to Foot Mercato. The French website reports that the 27-year-old is attracting interest thanks to his performances this season. Manchester United are one of the sides closely monitoring the former Marseille player.
Gueye has been steadily climbing the ranks for a few years but hit the pinnacle in January when he scored the winning goal in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.
That made him an icon for his nation but also ‘sent a message’ according to FM. Gueye has now become an even more complete midfielder during his time with Villarreal in Spain.
Why Manchester United are interested
Pape Gueye is ‘shining brightly’ in La Liga after joining them on a free transfer in 2024. At this moment in time, he’s an indispensable piece of the puzzle for manager Marcelino.
There’s been tremendous improvement in his game technically and he is now ‘one of the most prolific’ defensive midfielders in Spain. That’s while playing in a team that consistently fights for a top four finish.
It’s been a ‘stunning transformation’, and the feeling is that a more ‘prestigious’ club could be waiting around the corner.
There is certainly a feeling that it would be a miracle for Villarreal to keep him this summer, particularly after the World Cup.
Red Devils show ‘considerable interest’
Manchester United are one of the sides showing ‘considerable interest’ in him. They could make a ‘very tempting offer’ to secure his signature.
The Red Devils will need a replacement for Casemiro. Gueye is seen as someone who could be ‘ideal’ to do that. There’s no mention of an asking price at this point. It should be pointed out that Gueye’s current deal expires in 2028.
As a result, Villarreal could view this summer window as the ideal time to sell if they want to secure a top price—unless they manage to tie the 27‑year‑old down to a new deal.
But with his status rising and Manchester United on the prowl, that might prove to be a difficult task.
