Both Everton and West Ham are understood to be interested in one of Man United’s players this summer.

Man United are in a great position at the moment as far as Champions League qualification is concerned. They have won five of their last six games, all under Michael Carrick, and remain unbeaten under the interim manager.

Several players have begun to flourish under Carrick, including defender Harry Maguire, who has been subject to transfer interest from both Everton and West Ham.

Man United plan to extend Maguire’s contract

Since Carrick came in, Maguire has been a first-team regular for Man United, providing the manager with a reliable centre-back option, who also has plenty of experience, as he’s made over 280 Premier League appearances.

According to TeamTalk, Man United are making good progress with contract talks for Maguire, and it is understood that the club and the player are both very keen to sort out an extension to keep him at Old Trafford for at least another year.

Both Everton and West Ham have been linked with Maguire in the summer, if he does become a free agent. He would be an excellent addition for both clubs, as his experience and reliability could help boost them up the table, and potentially, especially for Everton, closer to the European places.

Deeney hails “dependable” Maguire

Maguire was excellent again during United’s 1-0 win against Everton over the weekend, in a game where he showed defensive solidity and leadership skills at the back, alongside his centre-back partner Leny Yoro.

Former Watford striker Troy Deeney hailed Maguire, as he included him in his Premier League team of the week for BBC Sport, suggesting that the Man United star is “Mr dependable”.

Deeney wrote: “Mr Dependable. I was going to put Luke Shaw in, but Harry just got the nod. Manchester United are on a great run under Michael Carrick and look like they are continuing to be a solid team, and Maguire being fit and available has coincided with that.

“He was great for Ruben Amorim, and now he's great again. Not so long ago, they were trying to shift him out for anything, and now he is the Guvnor.”

This season, Maguire has made 16 appearances in all competitions, providing one assist, and scoring two goals, one of which was a late winner against Liverpool under Amorim in the Autumn.
