Opinion: Three reasons why Nuno really can lead West Ham to their fifth win at Anfield over…

There are reasons to believe that West Ham United can actually go to Anfield and win against Liverpool for only the fifth time in their history.

Indeed, Liverpool vs West Ham United is a difficult task for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side on Saturday as they look to drag themselves out of the relegation zone for the first time in what feels like an age.

However, what’s important to remember is that West Ham are playing the team on the pitch, not the badge on the front of the shirt or the names on the back.

Finish this sentence: Axel Disasi is West Ham’s BEST DEFENDER since…

This Liverpool side are hardly firing on all cylinders, so Hammers News argues three reasons why West Ham can beat Liverpool at Anfield.

Liverpool’s home form this season isn’t brilliant

Anfield has so often been a fortress for the Reds, but not this season.

They’ve won just over 50% of their games and have dropped points in six of their games at Anfield thus far. They include draws with Leeds and Burnley, both of whom West Ham would surely back themselves to beat.

While Arne Slot’s side have improved since falling into a crisis earlier this season, they are clearly no longer the force of old.

Nuno Espirito Santo has beaten Arne Slot at Anfield

Liverpool cantered to the Premier League title last season and lost just one game at home along the way.

Who mastered that defeat? You guessed it, Nuno Espirito Santo!

Nuno worked out a system to shut Liverpool down back in September 2024 and while one might argue that things have changed, the Reds have hardly improved since.

West Ham have been one of the form teams in the Premier League in recent weeks and it would be foolish to bet against Nuno from coming up with a strong game plan.

West Ham’s ability to counter-attack

Liverpool have conceded four goals as the direct result of counter attacks this season. West Ham, meanwhile, have scored five.

The Hammers tend to enjoy better results when they do not have much of the ball and are able to spring forward through the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Jarrod Bowen.

They will almost certainly cede possession on Saturday but that does not have to be a bad thing.

Liverpool have struggled to deal with counter attacks at times and West Ham certainly have the tools to punish them.
