German press react to Man Utd target Felix Nmecha’s performance in Dortmund’s Champions League exit

Manchester United have been linked with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha. We are taking a look at how he fared in a big spotlight game.

Not for the first time, Manchester United have been linked with a move for Felix Nmecha. A report from TeamTalk claimed that Nmecha is a potential midfield addition for summer 2026. It was claimed he has a valuation of around £50 million.

Last night he was in action in the Champions League as Dortmund took on Atalanta, boasting a 2-0 lead from the first leg…

Nmecha struggles in Dortmund collapse

Felix Nmecha’s Borussia Dortmund collapsed to a 4-1 away defeat and a 4-3 aggregate exit to Atalanta.

Atalanta’s win ensured they are the only remaining Italian side left in the Champions League, with Napoli, Juventus and Inter Milan all eliminated.

Nmecha played all 90 minutes in midfield alongside Jobe Bellingham, with Dortmund overwhelmed in Bergamo.

German international Nmecha failed to make a single tackle or interception, and won only one duel of the four he contested.

He had no touches in the Atalanta penalty box, failing to offer a shot on target or create a single goalscoring chance.

It was a flat performance, and was graded just a 4/10 by German outlet Spox, who wrote: “He tried hard and showed promise in gaining ground, he was too often chasing the game defensively.”

Sport.de noted that Nmecha did make a few promising passes, but were overall disappointed with his display.

They wrote: “He was unable to influence Dortmund’s nervous play for long stretches because his opponent was constantly on his heels. He rarely managed to break free from their grip, and the dynamism he displayed in the first leg was completely absent.”

Nmecha: A warning sign

Nmecha has two years remaining on his contract and German outlet Waz reports that Dortmund are interested in extending his deal.

While he is an interesting name, Nmecha would be a complete gamble for Manchester United this summer.

His flat performance in Dortmund’s Champions League exit is a major warning sign. He is a player who can go missing when the tide turns against him.

All players can have bad games, but there were question marks over Nmecha before last night, especially at the kind of money Dortmund are seeking. United would be better off looking elsewhere.
