Sunday's fixture against Crystal Palace presents Manchester United with another opportunity to consolidate their position in the top four. They remain unbeaten since Michael Carrick assumed control as interim manager and currently occupy fourth spot, three points clear of Chelsea and Liverpool, but with an inferior goal difference to the London side.

Carrick's squad must still face both of those teams before the campaign concludes. Securing three points in matches such as this weekend's - where they aim to complete a league double over Oliver Glasner's Eagles - could provide them with a crucial cushion in the battle for Champions League qualification.

Should United end the season in the top four, it may enhance their prospects of attracting their priority transfer targets. They invested over £200 million last summer on players who have featured regularly under Carrick and his predecessor, Ruben Amorim, though further reinforcements are likely required.

There's also the matter of generating additional revenue, beyond the wage budget freed up when Casemiro leaves in the summer. Transfer updates are the order of the day as we bring you the latest from around Old Trafford.

Plan behind double swoop

United could potentially generate as much as £170million through the sale of five first-team players. Offloading this quintet could go some way to providing the resources to pursue Nottingham Forest duo Elliot Anderson and Morgan Gibbs-White, who have both caught the eye despite their team's struggles down the bottom end of the table.

Two of those departures won't come as any shock. Selling Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund could bring in around £64m after options were agreed as part of loan deals for the pair last summer, although Barca are reportedly seeking a reduction on their £26m Rashford arrangement.

United skipper Bruno Fernandes might also be permitted to depart following Saudi interest, with The Mail reporting clubs beyond the Premier League can secure the midfielder for £56.8m. Add in another combined £48m for Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount - based on January reports and Transfermarkt valuations - and the funds could be there to bring Anderson and Gibbs-White to Old Trafford.

Onana setting sights high

Andre Onana is determined to come back and compete for his starting position at Manchester United, according to The Guardian. The goalkeeper joined Trabzonspor on a season-long loan in September but is not anticipated to remain in Turkey once the current Super Lig season ends.

Cameroon international Onana arrived as the first-choice goalkeeper under Erik ten Hag in 2023 but his stock fell after several notable mistakes last season. United brought in Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp mere days before the former Inter Milan star left on loan and the new shot-stopper has received commendation from Carrick in recent weeks.

"Senne is quite quiet and unassuming at times, but he's got a real steel," Carrick said after Lammens starred in Monday's win at Everton. "The jump he made to come here is huge. To take it like he has done and just get on with things speaks volumes about his personality."
