Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder is convinced Coventry City are heading to the Premier League
Chris Wilder believes Coventry City “cemented” their push for a return to the Premier League with Wednesday night’s victory over Sheffield United.
The Sky Blues weren’t at their fluid and attacking best but they put in a gutsy display packed full of character and defensive resolve to come from behind to take the 2-1 win at Bramall Lane, courtesy of goals from Haji Wright and Jack Rudoni.
The Blades’ defeat against the league leaders came just over a fortnight after suffering the same scoreline over second placed Middlesbrough.

“I’ve got to say, them two (Coventry and Middlesbrough) are, for me, arguably the best two in the division,” he said. “The Middlesbrough boys, that’s the standard and they dominated.
“I thought it was good performance from a lot of them tonight and I think that’s an unbelievably frustrating part of it because they’re a top side, you know, and they knew it was game on tonight.
“I always thought it would be the feel of the game that was last season, two teams going for it and not to lose really. Sometimes you don’t play great, but can you get a result out of a game, whether it’s a win or whether it’s a draw? But when you play as well as we have played tonight, you have got to win the game and we haven’t.
“And I suppose from Frank and Coventry’s point of view – they said, ‘we’ve not been great, but we’ve ended up winning the game.”
He added: “I wish them all well and all the best. I think they’ll obviously go on now to play in the Premier League next year and nights like tonight cement that because of their experience. And when you look at it and you’ve got Onyeku in the middle of the park and Rudoni, who’s a player, and Haji Wright and Sakamoto and the boys, you know, Jay Dasilva...
“We’ve got to get that balance right and unfortunately that’s hurt us tonight.”
