Opinion: Everton predicted XI vs Newcastle United as David Moyes makes Thierno Barry decision

Everton take on Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.

After consecutive Premier League defeats, the pressure is on Everton to get a positive result on Tyneside.

David Moyes came in for some real criticism after the Manchester United loss, with many questioning his team selection.

Moyes played multiple players out of position, with James Garner at right-back, Jarrad Branthwaite at left-back and Harrison Armstrong on the wing.

The Scotsman will have learned from that, and so there are expected to be some changes to the starting line-up this weekend.

Pickford assumes his usual role in goal with a changed back four ahead of him.

Jake O’Brien has now served his one-game suspension, so he is set to return to the backline at right-back.

Despite James Tarkowski’s lack of pace being exposed against United, Moyes will more than likely back him to start next to Jarrad Branthwaite at the heart of the defence. Vitalii Mykolenko returns at left-back.

Moving into midfield, there is a decision to make on Idrissa Gana Gueye as he’s shown clear signs of decline in recent weeks.

The 36-year-old has struggled to deal with the intensity of the Premier League since returning from AFCON.

But, Moyes is often very loyal to the old guard, so Gueye is expected to partner James Garner in the middle of the park.

There could be a couple of changes to the attack as Harrison Armstrong drops out for Tyrique George.

George impressed in his cameo against Man United, so he certainly deserves his second Everton start.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye will of course be the first names on the teamsheet, and then there could be a big change up top.

Thierno Barry has been so poor in recent weeks, so Beto may well get his opportunity from the first whistle.
