Arsenal and Chelsea have the chance to bolster their squad in the summer transfer window
Arsenal and Chelsea are ‘interested’ in Atalanta left-back Honest Ahanor, according to CaughtOffside. The report suggests the Premier League pair are weighing up potential £31million moves for the youngster this summer. Manchester City have also been mentioned as a suitor.
The Gunners remain top of the table ahead of City and Aston Villa as they chase down the title. They won 4-1 away at Tottenham Hotspur last time out. Meanwhile, the Blues are sat in 5th after their 1-1 draw at home to Burnely in their last outing.
Arsenal and Chelsea target Atalanta star Honest Ahanor with Manchester City
Arsenal could see Ahanor as someone to boost their defensive department. If he joined them, he would give them more competition and depth at the back. The 18-year-old could battle it out with Riccardo Calafiori and Myles Lewis-Skelly for a place in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI.
As for Chelsea, they have Marc Cucurella but he has been linked with an exit. If he left, they would need to find a replacement. Ahanor is someone who has a bright future ahead of him in the game and is someone who Liam Rosenior could get the best out of.
Ahanor, who is from Italy, started his career at Genoa and rose up through their academy ranks. He was a regular at various different youth levels before going on to play six times for their first-team. Atalanta came calling for his services last year and he has since made 25 appearances in all competitions, 16 of which have come in Serie A.
What now for Arsenal and Chelsea?
Arsenal take on Chelsea this weekend at the Emirates Stadium. Arteta was delighted with their victory over Spurs and said afterwards: “I cannot be prouder and happier for what I've seen out there, but especially the way we lived the last 72 hours, because I think this game in particular needed some context. And after what happened against Wolves and the manner in which we lost two points in the last kick of the game, it was tough.
“But that's the beauty of this game. There is no explanation watching the game, for how the hell you draw that game, from any angle. You watch it back and say it's impossible, and you have to watch it again and say it's not going to happen, but it happened. And then you have to lift yourself up because you're feeling angry, upset, ashamed at some point.”
