Ian Wright explains why Benjamin Sesko’s ‘fantastic’ winner vs Everton was even better than people think

Ian Wright has revealed why he was blown away by Benjamin Sesko’s sensational strike in Manchester United’s Premier League encounter with Everton on Monday.

Benjamin Sesko’s turnaround has been pretty stunning! Should he start the next game?

Manchester United made the breakthrough against Everton in the 71st minute after a sensational counterattack involving Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Sesko.

Matheus Cunha played a superb ball from inside the United half and forward Bryan Mbeumo latched onto the pass before bursting into the Everton box in the match.

Mbeumo held up the ball before squaring a pass into the path of an onrushing Sesko, who superbly curled his finish into the bottom right corner of the net.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright feels that Sesko’s winner was not being fully appreciated for the execution of his strike on the back of the Man Utd superb counterattack.

Speaking on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast, he said: “That goal, Cunha’s work and the pass, but what was good about it, what people will underestimate is the ball has come across to Sesko and his concentration and finish.

“He had a long time to look at it; people underestimate, they think that’s easy; it’s just him and the goalie, it was fantastic.”

“For me, the way I look at the pressure is it’s something that if I want to be a good player, it’s something that I have to have,” Sesko said, as per The Guardian.

“I take it as a privilege. It’s something that has [to be there] if you want to play at the highest level and it’s about accepting it and not really caring about it. It doesn’t really affect me.”

Sesko has found the back of the net eight times and registered one assist in 24 matches across all competitions in the 2025-26 season for Man Utd so far.
