Oliver Glasner Crystal Palace manager
Red Bull are eyeing up Oliver Glasner as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp this summer.
That’s according to Salzburger Nachrichten. The Austrian newspaper reports on Klopp’s future, claiming Crystal Palace’s manager is the leading candidate to replace him in the event of a “premature separation.”
The newspaper reports that Klopp’s position as Head of Global Soccer is currently facing increasing criticism.
Red Bull appointed the former Liverpool coach last year after leaving Anfield. But his arrival has not brought Red Bull’s teams the success they imagined.
Post Liverpool commercials
Rather, Klopp has seemingly been more focused on ‘numerous commercials’ and being ‘omnipresent’ in the media than leading Red Bull to success.
That means the 58-year-old has only partly succeeded in the task given to him. While he’s now the perfect spokesman for the company, the sporting success has been lacking. As a result, a parting of the ways is no longer out of the question.
A departure would not catch Red Bull bosses off guard, though. According to SN’s sources, they’ve already lined up Oliver Glasner to replace him.
He plans to leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season and is “not averse” to the move. He can well imagine himself in a job ‘without daily obligations’ after years of coaching.
Glasner wants the easy life
Should no ‘top club’ come calling in the coming months, and Red Bull’s position be available, the 51-year-old would be open. He’s already ‘expressed interest’ at the idea.
It all depends on Klopp’s plans. Real Madrid have been credited with an interest already. The German is reportedly the dream candidate for Florentino Perez. Whether he’d move to the Bernabeu is another matter entirely.
But his position at the top of Red Bull is not secure by any means. His appointment has not brought the success that the drinks company were expecting, particularly on the sporting side of things.
That development has opened the door to a departure, and Glasner is ready to walk through it as his replacement after Crystal Palace if no major jobs emerge this summer.
