Leeds plotting controversial move for "extraordinary" Galatasaray gem who plays 5 positions

Leeds United are now plotting a controversial move for an "extraordinary" versatile forward, who is able to play in five positions.

Leeds eyeing new forward amid Gnonto uncertainty

Former Leeds star Alan Smith has suggested Wilfried Gnonto will need to start doing more in his cameos as a substitute if he is going to force his way back into the starting XI, saying: "It's a bit of a strange one, isn't it? He's still so young as well, I think everybody wants everything yesterday, don't they?

"I think he’s a good asset to have. It will all boil down to him being able to come off the bench and influence the game, have an impact when he comes on, because I feel like when he comes on, you're always expecting him to produce something."

The Italian had a difficult start to the campaign, missing seven Premier League games due to a calf injury, and he has since struggled to force his way into Daniel Farke's plans, failing to make it off the bench in four of the last five matches.

Farke's side have been faring well without Gnonto, currently sitting six points above the relegation zone, and they are now looking at replacing the winger in the summer transfer window.

That is according to a report from Sports Boom, which states Leeds are now plotting a move for Girona winger Yaser Asprilla, which could become controversial for Whites fans, given that he is currently on loan at Galatasaray.

However, the Turkish club have the option to buy Asprilla at the end of the season, and there could be competition for his signature, with Serie A giants AS Roma and Lazio also being named as potential suitors.

The 22-year-old is valued at £25m by Girona, which would be an affordable price tag for the Premier League side, but he isn't enjoying the greatest of campaigns...

The Whites are keen on a new centre-forward.

"Extraordinary" Asprilla could be risky signing for Leeds

The Colombian was unable to make an impact in La Liga this season, failing to score and picking up just one assist in 15 outings, and he is yet to deliver on loan at Galatasaray, featuring for just 82 minutes across four Turkish Super Lig appearances.

That said, there are some signs the winger could be a solid addition to Farke's squad, having received high praise from former coach Wilberth Perea, who said: "One of Yaser’s main characteristics is that he has always been a very daring player.

"He has a lot of personality and a huge capacity to do extraordinary things."

The attacker is also able to play in five positions, namely on both wings, at centre-forward, in the number 10 role, and in central midfield, which means he would be a versatile option for Farke.

Asprilla has impressed in England in the past, chipping in with six goals and seven assists for Watford in the Championship during the 2023-24 campaign, but his recent form means he would be a risky addition to Farke's squad.
