'Simple as that': Roy Keane issues verdict on Tottenham and West Ham in relegation scrap

Pundits have been very kind to West Ham United over the last few weeks following a turnaround in form, but Roy Keane is refusing to get carried away.

With Nuno Espirito Santo’s side proving to be one of the Premier League’s form teams of late, several leading pundits have backed West Ham United to avoid relegation.

Still, while there’s little doubt that the momentum is with West Ham right now, the fact is that they are still two points from safety with 11 games to play.

Things are looking up 😍 So who are we sending down to the Championship?!

Forest? Leeds?……Spurs? 🙏

The prospect of dragging Tottenham into the bottom three has been discussed, with Jamie O’Hara suggesting that West Ham are a better team than Spurs.

It’s a big claim, given the quality Spurs have in their squad – at least on paper.

Keane does not agree. Speaking on The Overlap, he said: “I think they’ll find a bit more than [Nottingham] Forest or West Ham.

“It’s as simple as that.”

Why Roy Keane is backing Tottenham to stay up over West Ham

Presumably, Keane believes the level of player in the Spurs squad is higher than what’s on offer at either West Ham or Forest.

On paper, he’d probably be right. It’s not that neither West Ham nor Forest have good players, just that Spurs arguably have a higher calibre, as one might expect given they play in the Champions League.

However, Spurs are beset by injuries right now and the club is in genuine crisis. On the other hand, West Ham have moved from their crisis behind the scenes.

When explaining his decision even further, Keane added: “It can change week to week but I’m sitting here and I still think Tottenham will have enough to stay up.”

Roy Keane used to think that West Ham would stay up

Back in August, Keane suggested that West Ham could stay in the Premier League for the 2025/26 season despite Jamie Carragher predicting they would be relegated.

At the time, Keane pinpointed the signing of Mads Hermansen as a reason as to why they might stay up, with the Dane signed to help the Hammers build from the back.

That didn’t happen initially, but Nuno has brought Hermansen back into the fold recently for that exact reason.

It will be fascinating to see what happens in the final 11 games of the season.
