Opinion: Elliot Anderson could actually help Everton make two big signings in the summer…

Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson could be the key domino in helping Everton’s transfer business this summer.

That’s because, according to Flashscore, Manchester City are lining up a move to sign Anderson this summer, but they’ll have to offload a few players to facilitate it.

Two of their high-earners John Stones and Jack Grealish are expected to be moved on, freeing up wages for Anderson.

Indeed, Everton are showing an interest in signing Stones and of course Grealish upon the end of his loan deal.

So, Toffees chiefs will be hopeful that Anderson makes a move to the Etihad Stadium, as it’ll strengthen their negotiating position to sign the aforementioned City duo.

John Stones would be a Michael Keane replacement

It appears Stones is being lined up as a replacement for Michael Keane, who is due to leave at the end of the season.

Keane’s current contract expires in the summer, and there’s been no word on a renewal up to now.

Moyes has his sights set on Europe this season, so if his side do manage to achieve a top seven or eight finish, they’ll certainly need to bring a different calibre of player in.

There are some concerns around Stones’ current level, as he was branded ‘rusty’ upon his return from injury this month.

Speaking after the FA Cup win against Salford City, Pep Guardiola admitted that he’ll need time to get back up to speed.

“He’s back. He still needs time, he’s not the John Stones that we knew, but his body language was really good in terms of the press and aggression.”

That should be a warning for Everton, as they’ll have to commit a substantial amount of funds to land his signature.

According to Capology, the 87-cap international earns around £250,000-a-week.
