Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko stunned fans as he bust a gut and made up ground to slot home United's winner against Everton on Monday night. The Slovenian powered through the gears to clock a top speed of 35.3 km/h - yet his impressive time doesn't even register amongst the top five fastest Premier League players this season.

Sesko was behind Toffees centre-back James Tarkowski as Matheus Cunha dug out space to play the ball wide towards Bryan Mbeumo. Sesko's breath-taking burst of acceleration then earned himself a one-on-one situation with Jordan Pickford as he took on the ball from Mbeumo before converting.

Opta logged Sesko's speed as being quicker than his previous fastest time: a sprint in the Boxing Day win over Newcastle United. However, while the 22-year-old's roadrunner impression looked easy on the eye against the Blues, the time clocked is not even United's fastest this season.

Mbeumo racked up a speed one kilometre-per-hour faster than his team-mate, during the away game at Fulham back in August. That remains the fastest a United player has run this season.

Sesko does hold second and third place in the list, however, for his efforts against Everton and Newcastle. Amad and Diogo Dalot also registered runs that feature highly.

Since Opta began recording speed data at the start of the 2020/21 season, Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven is the fastest player on record clocking a top speed of 37.38. This came in in January 2024.

This season, however, has seen Wolves' Jackson Tchatchoua take the top two spots, according to the Premier League's official website.

Here, takes a look at United's top five fastest players so far this season and the five clocking the most rapid time across the Premier League this season as it stands. We also take a closer look at the five fastest players since records began.
