Jota Silva being sent back to Nottingham Forest – Reasoning explained

Jota Silva

Beşiktaş are not considering buying Jota Silva permanently from Nottingham Forest this summer.

According to Takvim, coach Sergen Yalçın has grown disappointed with the Nottingham Forest loanee’s contributions.

The Turkish outlet reports that Beşiktaş have no interest in using the €17m purchase clause they negotiated with Nottingham Forest last summer.

The 26‑year‑old has not justified the club spending that money on him.

Silva joined the Turkish side on loan at the end of the summer transfer window. The deal included a clause to make the move permanent.

But the Portuguese winger has been struggling to get playing time in recent months. He’s managed just 13 appearances in all competitions to date.

Nine of his last 11 appearances in the league have been from the bench. Silva has failed to impress Yalçın. The winger is now not a part of his long-term plans at the Turkish club.

Instead, he is focusing on giving more opportunities to players who will ‘form the backbone’ of his team next season. Silva is not among them, so the club will not buy him this summer.

How this just adds to future uncertainty

What happens at that point, remains to be seen. He will surely seek a permanent exit from Nottingham Forest, where he is also seemingly not a part of the plans.

He also played the role of a ‘super sub’ at the City Ground, making just five Premier League starts last season. That did allow him to make some impact, but it was not a situation that the forward was happy with.

The plan had been for him to get back on track at Beşiktaş but that has clearly not happened. A return to Portugal would make most sense after his success with Vitoria Guimarães before his move to Nottingham Forest.

Sport Witness covered reports throughout last summer regarding Sporting Club de Portugal’s interest in him. Indeed, the player later detailed while it didn’t happen.

They could be a potential destination, although it will all depend on Nottingham Forest’s plans. For now, one thing is clear, he won’t be staying at Beşiktaş long-term.
