Evan Ferguson
Rome, Italy 23th August 2025: Evan Ferguson of AS Roma during SERIE A 2025-26 football match between AS Roma vs Bologna FC at the Olimpico Stadium
Over the past few months, Sport Witness have been keeping tabs on Evan Ferguson’s loan at AS Roma, and the general struggles of the Brighton player.
The Italian side saw him start off with promise, especially in preseason. He impressed against Bologna and Pisa but then took many weeks to score his first goal. That came against Cremonese in November.
Amidst all of that, Ferguson was struggling with fitness. There was annoyance at Roma about him playing for Ireland despite an injury, and then allegedly returning overweight.
Soon, he lost his starting spot and then an ankle injury ruled him of action. Those worries are still lingering, with Ferguson having returned to Brighton to seek consultation. There was also the possibility of surgery but there is still uncertainty about his medical situation.
Brighton player wearing brace
Corriere della Sera – relayed by DajeRomaTV, report that the striker has been wearing a brace and using crutches for weeks now.
He took on help from Brighton and flew to England for this. But that hasn’t yielded any concrete results. That is why Ferguson will have a new consultation session in the next few days and a surgery is being considered.
There is a growing chance the 21-year-old might not play for Roma before the end of the season.
Injuries becoming pattern for Ferguson
Unfortunately, the Brighton player has been witnessing a pattern of injuries for multiple seasons now.
Initially, there was promise at Roma and he was being preferred over Artem Dovbyk. That too faded because of fitness worries and it just defines the player’s issues.
DajeRomaTV have also noted that Gasperini hasn’t always been impressed with the striker’s attitude either. That is one thing the player can control, even if injuries hold him back.
