Man Utd now eyeing 'shock' move to sign £150,000-a-week Premier League captain - report

Manchester United are now eyeing a 'shock' move to sign another Nottingham Forest star this summer, alongside Elliot Anderson, according to the Daily Mail.

With Forest in serious danger of being relegated from the Premier League this season, the Red Devils are also looking at a potential swoop to sign Anderson's teammate Morgan Gibbs-White in the summer transfer window.

GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed that Man United want to sign two top central midfielders this summer, with Forest star Anderson, Brighton and Hove Albion's Carlos Baleba, Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton and Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali four key targets with Premier League experience.

United's chances of signing their dream targets would be boosted by qualification for the Champions League, with the team currently on course to do that as they lie in fourth position under caretaker manager Michael Carrick with 11 matches of the campaign left to play.

Gibbs-White has Release Clause in Forest Contract

While United have reportedly been quoted £100m+ for many of the aforementioned targets, finding an agreement for Gibbs-White would be more simple given the Daily Mail reports that he has a release clause written into his contract at the City Ground.

The Forest captain signed a new contract after owner Evangelos Marinakis persuaded him to stay last summer instead of joining Tottenham, with his salary rising to £150,000-a-week.

That wage is similar to the money recent Old Trafford arrivals Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko are on, but it is a factor which could stop United completing a move for Gibbs-White.

The report adds that United's new pay scale, as they look to drive down their wage bill this summer, could see the likes of Anderson and Gibbs-White move to rival clubs instead for more money.

Interest from Manchester City and Chelsea in Anderson in particular will be a worry for United, as they may not be able to compete on personal terms with those clubs.

Separate reports have suggested that United are ready to shatter their transfer record to land top target Anderson this summer.

The Red Devils' current record is the near £90m they paid to sign Paul Pogba, but the club is said to be willing to meet Forest's £100m+ price tag for the England international at the end of the season.

Anderson has been labelled as 'elite' by Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel, and the 23-year-old looks destined for the top in the next few years.

How Much is Gibbs-White Worth?

With the value of his release clause unknown, GIVEMESPORT asked ChatGPT how much Gibbs-White is really worth ahead of the summer transfer window, and this is what it said:

'Morgan Gibbs-White is realistically worth £50–70 million in today’s market. Data-driven valuation models place him around €60–65 million (£50–55m) based on age, performance level, and contract length. However, in an actual transfer scenario, Premier League dynamics typically push the fee higher. Given his importance to Nottingham Forest and the premium English clubs pay for proven domestic talent, a realistic sale price would likely land closer to £60–75 million. In short: statistically worth about £55m, but in the real transfer market, probably nearer £65–70m if sold today.'
